Major Defense offers a variety of classes targeted to individuals from the inexperienced new gun owner to those gun owners looking to develop skills and understanding of Concealed Carry and personal protection inside and outside the home. Our courses are taught by National Rifle Association (NRA) and United States Concealed Carry Association (USCCA) certified instructors. The Chief Instructor at Major Defense is one of the first USCCA certified instructors in the state of Florida.
This USCCA course fills the need for a basic handgun orientation program for new purchasers. The Basic Handgun Course was designed to provide a hands-on introduction to the safe handling of semi automatic and revolver and an introduction to defensive shooting fundamentals. This course is at least 4 hours long and includes classroom and range time learning self defense firearms basics and defensive shooting fundamentals. Students will learn the USCCA's universal safety rules; clearing both pistol models; understanding their parts and operation; ammunition components; defensive shooting fundamentals; pistol gear and gadgets; and use of a laser training gun to develop point shooting skills in the classroom. The course culminates with live fire on a range. Students will receive the USCCA's Concealed Carry and Home Defense Fundamentals training manuel (a $27.95 value), and a course completion certificate for everyone that successfully completes the course.
The class meets the Florida Concealed Carry License requirement for proof of competency.

This is a comprehensive course for anyone 21 and older considering carrying a firearm for self defense. This course is at least 6 hours long and includes both classroom and range components. It helps you to develop your own personal protection plan and understand conflict avoidance and situational awareness. It covers the basics of a self defense firearm and teaches you defensive shooting fundamentals. It provides an understanding of the physiology of violent encounters; the legal aspects of using deadly force (including knowing what to do in the aftermath); and a guide to gear and gadgets. This course also uses a laser training gun to develop point shooting skills in the classroom. The course culminates with live fire on a range. Students will receive the USCCA's Concealed Carry and Home Defense Fundamentals training manuel (a $27.95 value), and a course completion certificate for everyone that successfully completes the course

Countering the Mass Shooter Threat is a comprehensive course for every house of worship, school, business, and family in America. We will review the data of 48 mass shootings to determine what can be learned from these tragedies and how following a comprehensive plan can help you to not only avoid becoming a victim, but eliminate the presence of these shooters once and for all.
The material is presented in an easy-to-follow format with information for all experience levels. Essential lessons on topics like gun-free zones, magazine capacity, and using the Run, Hide, Fight Methodology are already saving lives across the nation. Here’s just a few of the lifesaving lessons you’ll learn:
· Create an Emergency Operations Plan: Discover how you can end attacks early and minimize the number of victims in an incident with strategic planning and preparedness training.
· Triage and Treat The Wounded: Learn the lifesaving measures you can take to save critically injured victims after an attack is over.
· Expert Recommendations: Get advice on topics like how to properly develop an Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) for your home or place of business.

This course will consist of about 6 hours of classroom material and in-class activities. The class is nominally six hours in length, but sometimes runs a bit longer, based on student questions. Additionally, students will receive USCCA’s comprehensive full-color book, “USCCA Countering the Mass Shooter Threat” along with additional information on available resources.
This is a non-shooting course The costs: $95
This is a non shooting course that uses a virtual training system to provide students with the knowledge, skills and attitude necessary to learn the basics of pistol marksmanship. It's a 1 1/2 hour course that introduces you to safe gun handling and simulator pistol knowledge, fundamentals of pistol marksmanship, and apply those fundamentals on a virtual range using a laser shot indicating simulator pistol. The certificate you receive indicates you completed the course, but is not accepted by any state as proof of competency to obtain a Concealed Carry License. It's a fun course and used to help the non shooter realize they can learn how to shoot competently and safely by taking one of Major Defense's basic pistol courses.

This course fills the need for a firearm orientation program for new purchasers. Our Basic Pistol class is designed to provide a hands-on introduction to the safe handling and proper orientation to revolvers and semi automatic pistols. This course is at least 4 hours long and includes classroom and range time learning to shoot a handgun. Students will learn the rules for safe gun handling; the pistol model parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; cleaning the pistol; and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, and a NRA Basic Pistol certificate upon successful completion of the course and range exercise. .
The class meets the Florida Concealed Carry License requirement for proof of competency.

If you're a woman who wants to learn about gun safety, it can be intimidating to take a firearms course. Will I be the only one who's never used a gun before? Will I be surrounded by burly, intimidating men? Will I be the only woman in the class? Most women in these classes have never handled a firearm before, so you're among friends. The NRA Women's Only pistol course is relaxed, rewarding and productive. We help women learn shooting skills in a safe and supportive women's only atmosphere! This class provides a hands-on introduction to the safe handling and proper orientation to one specific pistol action type. This course is at least 5 hours long and includes classroom and range time. Safety and proficiency are intertwined throughout this course which is designed to initially have the student use a firearm with a LaserLyte Pro or a SIRT pistol to develop basic gun handling skills in the classroom. The course progresses and builds to live fire on the range.
The class meets the Florida Concealed Carry License requirement for proof of competency.

This course teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to the safe and efficient use of a handgun for protection of self and family, and to provide information on the law-abiding individual’s right to self-defense. This is an 8-16 hour course. Students should expect to shoot approximately 200 rounds of ammunition. Students will learn basic defensive shooting skills, Drawing from the holster, mindset and responding to a violent confrontation and the aftermath, Carry modes and pistol concealment, how to choose a handgun for self-defense, and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the NRA Guide to the Basics of Personal Protection Outside The Home handbook, NRA Basics to Pistol Shooting, booklet. To earn a course completion certificate you must pass the written open book test with a 90% passing grade ad the range qualification scoring 80% or better.
NRA CCW Course participants must be law abiding, adults (at least 21 years old), and experienced shooters (shooters able to show mastery of the basic skills of safe gun handling, shooting a group, zeroing the firearm, and cleaning the firearm) to maximize what can be learned from this course. Proof of shooting experience can be one of the following: NRA Basic Pistol Course Certificate, or the USCCA Basic Pistol Certificate.
The Basic CCW course costs: $150.*
The NRA Defensive Pistol Course will focus on the techniques needed to develop a defensive mindset. The goal of the course will be to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary to carry and use a concealed pistol ethically, responsibly and with confidence. As a result of participating in this course, the student will be able to explain and demonstrate the following: how to apply the NRA Rules for Safe Gun Handling when carrying a concealed firearm; basic principles of concealment; the difference between cover and concealment; drawing from the holster; levels of mental awareness; developing the proper mindset when using a pistol for personal protection; clearing common stoppages; use of pocket pistols; and more. Students will receive the NRA Guide to the Basics Of Personal Protection Outside The Home handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure and the NRA Defensive Pistol certificate.
This is an 8 hour course. Students should expect to shoot approximately 300 rounds of ammunition. Students will learn basic defensive shooting skills, and hone them on the range between 3 and 15 yards engaging single and multiple targets. To earn a course completion certificate you must pass the range qualification scoring 80% or better .
The NRA Defensive Pistol Course participants must be law abiding, adults (at least 21 years old), and experienced shooters (shooters able to show mastery of the basic skills of safe gun handling, shooting a group, zeroing the firearm, and cleaning the firearm) to maximize what can be learned from this course. Proof of shooting experience can be one of the following: NRA CCW Course Certificate or the USCCA Conceal Carry Certificate,.
The DP course costs: $150.*
This course fills the need for a firearm orientation program for new purchasers. NRA FIRST Steps Shotgun is designed to provide a hands-on introduction to the safe handling and proper orientation to one specific shotgun action type. This course is at least 4 hours long and includes classroom and range time learning to shoot a specific shotgun action type. Students will learn the NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; the particular shotgun model parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; cleaning the shotgun; and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the Basics of Shotgun Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, and a FIRST Steps Course completion certificate. The NRA Basic Practical Rocker is awarded for those that successfully demonstrate the four basic safety and marksmanship skills taught in the course.
The class meets the Florida Concealed Carry License requirement for proof of competency.
The costs: $95 - includes range fees and targets. $125 if you need a rental gun and ammo.
This Course teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude for the safe and proper use of a shotgun in shooting a moving target. This course is at least 8 hours long and includes classroom and range time learning to shoot shotguns at moving targets. Students learn the NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; shotgun parts and operation; shots hell components; shotgun shell malfunctions; shooting fundamentals; range rules; shooting at straight away and angled targets, cleaning the shotgun; and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the Basics of Shotgun Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, take a Basics of Shotgun Shooting Student Examination, and receive a course completion certificate. The NRA Basic Practical Rocker is awarded for those that successfully demonstrate the four basic safety and marksmanship skills taught in the course.
The class meets the Florida Concealed Carry License requirement for proof of competency.

This is a non-shooting course and teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and explains the attitude necessary for the safe handling and storage of firearms and ammunition in the home. This is a 4 (plus) hour course for safe gun handling that is conducted in a classroom or an individuals home. Students are taught NRA’s three rules for safe gun handling; primary causes of firearms accidents; firearm parts; how to unload certain action types; ammunition components; cleaning; care; safe storage of firearms in the home; and the benefits of becoming an active participant in the shooting sports. Students will receive the NRA Home Firearm Safety handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Basic Firearm Training Program brochure, and course completion certificate.
This class does not meet the requirement for the Florida Concealed Carry License.
The course costs: $50 per person when taken in the classroom or $50 for the first person plus $10 for each additional family member, if taken at your home.
Teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude for developing a strategy for ones personal safety. The seminar includes classroom instruction on a variety of crime prevention strategies, from criminal psychology to automobile crimes to cyber crime. Seminars can vary in length, and may be modified to suit the needs of a particular audience. This is not a firearms instruction course, and does not include instruction in physical combat self-defense. Seminars teach about common weaknesses that criminals may take advantage of, and teaches a variety of corrective measures that are practical, inexpensive, and easy to follow. Strategies include home security, carjack avoidance techniques, cyber safety, and use of personal safety devices. A complete seminar may last as long as eight hours and include the entire lesson plan, but a modified seminar may be as short as 90 minutes and address a specific topic. Students will receive the Refuse To Be A Victim student handbook, NRA Refuse To Be A Victim® brochure, NRA Become A Refuse To Be A Victim® Instructor Brochure, Refuse To Be A Victim® Firearms Supplement, and a course completion certificate.
